As participants of the Windows Insider Program, we are a vocal bunch — at least we should be. One of the ways to provide feedback to Microsoft for the Windows 10 Insider Preview is via the official UserVoice website. Currently, one of the most popular suggestions involves the return of the full-screen expand option in the Start Menu.
Basically, in previous builds, Microsoft placed an expand option in the Start menu that allowed users to easily enter or exit the full-screen Start (see image of an older build of Windows 10 above). This was actually a fantastic way to easily switch between the two. Unfortunately, in recent builds, Microsoft has relocated this option into the Settings app.
“The new “expand” button was a gift to Windows insiders who asked for a fluid way to switch between start menu and start screen. Many Windows users, myself included, used this button daily, to enter full screen mode and vice versa. The “enter/exit full screen” option has become so popular that over 6,000 Windows insiders so far have asked Microsoft to bring this option to every title bar in Windows 10.
Unfortunately, the button has gone missing as of Build 10122. Now if the user wants to switch between start menu and start screen, the user must go into settings, then into Personalization, then into the Start tab, flipping a pill switch, going back out of settings, etc., which is a cumbersome and time-consuming step back in the wrong direction.” — Ethan J.
