Office 365 now offers enhanced control over third-party apps

The Office Team has announced today that it’s introducing enhanced control over Office 365 third-party apps to help companies better manage what kind of apps employees are allowed to use. This new feature will be a part of Office 365 Advanced Security Management, providing IT admins the ability to approve or revoke apps’ access to Office 365.

As the company explains in the blog post, many companies using Office 365 today allow employees to install any third-party Office 365 app without any IT intervention, which can be problematic if these users don’t make sure that the apps they use comply with their organization policies.

However, app permissions will now “provide information to IT about which applications in their network have access to Office 365 data, what permissions they have and which users granted these apps access to their Office 365 accounts,” explains the blog post.

Following an examination, IT admins will be able to revoke permissions to non-compliant apps which will prevent them from accessing employees’ data in Office 365. Additionally, the new feature allows IT admins to notify users that the Office 365 third-party apps they have installed will be banned.
