Microsoft finally launched its inaugural flagship store, at 677 Fifth Ave. in New York City, after six long years of waiting for just the right real estate to become available. The store joins Microsoft’s 110 retail outlets in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico in highlighting Microsoft’s hardware and software solutions.

So, what makes this new location a “flagship store,” you ask? Well, it’s not just the fact that it spans 22,629 square feet, the largest Microsoft Store to date. The location also features some additional accoutrements:

  • A larger Answer Desk for providing technical support, even to non-Microsoft Store customers
  • Two community theatres providing space for free educational and community events
  • A total of 19 languages spoken by various staff members, such as Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, Arabic, and Russian, to accommodate New York’s international population
  • Surface Hub display, the only Microsoft Store able to showcase the company’s largest Surface device
  • 40′ x 20′ exterior culture wall celebrating the “vibrant Fifth Avenue shopping district culture” with non-commercial art playing on the building’s façade

Microsoft is kicking off the new flagship location with a community concert at Rockefeller Center featuring rapper PitBull. The company is also giving more than $3 million in products to New York education and youth charitable organizations, as part of more than $81 million Microsoft has donated to celebrate Microsoft Store launches.
