Quantum Break, the science fiction third-person shooter developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Studios, is now available to purchase on Steam. The game was previously released on both the Xbox One and the Windows 10 Store in April (check out our Quantum Break review) but PC gamers on previous Windows versions did not have the chance to play it until now.

While the Windows Store version of the game leverages DirectX12, it has been initially plagued with frame rate drops and other issues that have since been addressed with post-launch updates. The Steam version of the game only supports DirectX11 and should work fine on Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs. Back in August, Remedy Head of Communications Thomas Puha explained that both the Windows Store version and the Steam version of the game will be supported going forward.

According to the store listing on Steam, the minimum specs required to play the game are a 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260x GPU and 68GB of storage. As a reminder, here is the official description of the game:

In the aftermath of a split second of destruction that fractures time itself, two people find they have changed and gained extraordinary abilities. One of them travels through time and becomes hell-bent on controlling this power. The other uses these new abilities to attempt to defeat him – and fix time before it tears itself irreparably apart. Both face overwhelming odds and make dramatic choices that will determine the shape of the future. Quantum Break is a unique experience; one part hard-hitting video game, one part thrilling live action show, featuring a stellar cast, including Shawn Ashmore as the hero Jack Joyce, Aidan Gillen as his nemesis Paul Serene and Dominic Monaghan as Jack’s genius brother William. Quantum Break is full of the vivid storytelling, rich characters and dramatic twists Remedy Entertainment are renowned for. Your choices in-game will affect the outcome of this fast-paced fusion between game and show giving the player a completely unique entertainment experience.

The game is a $39.99 purchase on Steam, which is the same price found on the Windows 10 Store. THQ Nordic will also sell a physical version of the game labelled the “Timeless Collector’s Edition”: for still $39.99, the bundle will include five game discs, a Steam Key, a “making of” Blu-ray disc and book, a CD of the game soundtrack, a game poster and a quickstart guide. The physical bundle should be available in most popular retailers though Amazon currently lists it as temporarily out of stock. If you have yet to purchase the game, let us know in the comments which version you plan to buy.
