The free Windows 10 offer is slowing PC sales, says IDC

A few weeks ago in May, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 had reached over 300 million active users. A new forecast out by the IDC, however, (via GeekWire) is now showing that Microsoft’s free Windows 10 offer is actually slowing down PC sales.

Overall, the new IDC research firm forecast projects that PC shipments worldwide are expected to fall by 7.3 percent, which is 2 percent worse than was previously projected. The outlook also calls for a, “progressively smaller decline through 2017, followed by a more stable volume in 2018.” Additionally, the forecast also finds that,

“Financial pressure on consumers from various regions, and the availability of alternatives, such as delaying PC replacement by using the free Windows 10 upgrade, or relying more on other devices continues to pressure consumer PC shipment.”
